The exports of Climate Villains will be subject to tariffs. Of course, climate has less to do with the policy than a desire to protect their industries made inefficient by existing policy. And the folly of the Ukraine war, of course. In 2021, electricity prices in France, where seventy percent of electricity is nuclear powered, were on average forty percent lower than Denmark and Germany, where there is a big emphasis on wind power.

China’s policy of beating the world to the renewables punch is exceedingly clever. Firstly, as the article says, there is an opportunity to corner the market. Already done! Secondly, clean and green, they will still be able to export to Europe as little or much as they want. Thirdly, European industry, protected behind tariff walls, will continue to be inefficient, unable to compete internationally. So China will hoover up most of the opportunities in the Global South. Eventually, China and Russia, and the Global South, the size of their combined economies will dwarf the West. And with that will go our influence over the world.

The problem here in the West is more talk than doing, in China they do more than talk.
