Because their farmers don’t get subsidies from their governments like in the EU and USA, their produce has to be of a higher quality for the higher prices charged. Part of the reason why the Australia-EU FTA hasn’t gone ahead is that quality Australian agricultural produce would be a threat to EU farmers and the Australia-US FTA sets increasing tariffs on Australian meats depending on the exceeded total amounts exported up to the US at a point in time. Cattle and sheep from Australia and NZ are also exported live to Muslim countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. Savings could be made if those countries were willing to accept frozen produce.
